Scotty McCreery recently performed his new song “Damn Strait” on fellow “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson‘s namesake talk show.
The live performance marked McCreery’s first appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” The performance came during the “What I’m Liking” segment, normally reserved for lighter stories and social media videos.
“He’s done amazing things since he won [American Idol] back in 2011,” Clarkson said ahead of McCreery’s performance. “Topping the Billboard charts and also dropping five albums. His latest is called Same Truck, and it features a song that pays tribute to the King Of Country, not you Shelton, George Strait. Now, performing ‘Damn Strait,’ give it up for Scotty McCreery y’all.”
“Damn Strait” is McCreery’s second single from his recently released album fifth album Same Truck. The album, produced by Frank Rogers, Derek Wells and Aaron Eshuis, also features hit tracks “You Time” and “Why You Gotta Be Like That.”
“Damn Strait” is a song that pays tribute to the King of Country George Strait as it tells about someone who can’t listen to his favorite Strait songs as they remind remind him of his ex.
“Damn Strait you’re killing me man / you know I’ve always been your biggest fan / now I can’t even listen ’cause I’ll get to missing her / then the hurt gets worse / Damn Strait I used to love your songs / but now every time that one comes on / my heart gets broke in half / but do I wish I could get her back / Damn Strait,” McCreery sings in the chorus.
